Orgasm Myths to Ditch

orgasm myths

Because the media is flooded with misinformation, we've listed a dozen orgasm myths that could prove to be very costly to a gullible person's sexual growth and well-being:

Myth 1: If a woman doesn't have an orgasm during intercourse, her man must be doing it wrong.

The Truth: The average man should work on expanding his love-making repertoire so that he's able to give his lover as much pleasure as she wants before, during, and after intercourse. Learning foreplay techniques from kissing her all over to caressing her erogenous zones should be very helpful.

Men: Most women need direct stimulation to the clitoris in order to have an orgasm. You may want to try getting your lady off with a sex toy while going down on her simultaneously.

When you have intercourse, try having her ride you from a position where she's on top so she can better control the movements, tempo, and angle of penetration.

Orgasm Myth 2: A lot of women can't have orgasms.

The Truth: Yes, many women have very infrequent orgasms, if ever at all. However, virtually all women are capable. Most females who do not climax are not receiving the right kind of stimulation- whether it is physical or emotional. Some women also have a hard time getting over their own mental blocks and sexual inhibitions.

Myth 3: Women don't masturbate

The Truth: While women tend not to play with themselves quite as often as men do, most ladies indulge in the practice at least a few times per month. How often a woman should masturbate is a matter of personal preference and many females masturbate daily.

Ladies: If you don't masturbate, you are missing out on its many benefits. The fact of the matter is- All women respond to sexual stimulation differently. Through masturbation you can explore what works for you. This is the key to a fulfilling sex life.

Masturbation can help you to relax and build sexual confidence. If you have difficulty achieving orgasm, this form of self discovery will help you to learn how to get yourself off. If you get to know your own body first- you are far more likely to know how to reach climax when you add another person to the equation.

Take time out to touch yourself in order to find out what you like. Play with your nipples, rub your clitoris, and stroke your G spot. You can also use a vibrator in order to enhance the sensations.

Orgasm Myth 4: Masturbation is unnatural.

The Truth: Hey, most of us would prefer to have sex with a live person instead of our hands. But, the bottom line is this: All human beings need a form of sexual release. If sex with a live person is not an option or it is not convenient- masturbation is the next best thing!

Myth 5: Masturbation can cause men to have unhealthy side effects.

The Truth: Unhealthy side effects? Yeah right! We've heard it all:
Masturbation can cause acne, blindness, insanity, hairy palms, blah, blah, blah...
Hey, if this were true- 95% of the men in this world would be stumbling around like freakish zombies in a horror flick. Besides, gorillas don't even have hairy palms- let alone humans!

Myth 6: If a man is suffering from erectile dysfunction- the problem is all mental.

The Truth: Although feelings of inadequacy can contribute to a man's inability to get or maintain an erection, impotence is usually a sign of a physical problem. The good news is that the vast majority of men will respond positively to treatment. (This topic is only partially related to orgasm myths- but we thought it should be addressed anyway!)

Orgasm Myth 7: The best cure for premature ejaculation is for men to think about something else while having sex.

The Truth: Although this may help, problems concerning premature ejaculation can often be corrected by doing PC exercises. For more information about this topic- read our article entitled "Male Orgasm Tips" .

Myth 8: The best way for a woman to have an orgasm is through sexual intercourse.

The Truth: Although most women enjoy having sexual intercourse, most will have a very hard time achieving orgasm from penile penetration alone. The penis, by itself, doesn't usually stimulate a woman's clitoris enough to bring her to climax.

Orgasm Myth 9: A man needs to have a big penis in order to satisfy his lover.

The Truth: An average sized guy who knows what he's doing has a better chance at making his lady cum than a man with a 10 inch horse dick who doesn't know how to use it!

Myth 10: Women don't really enjoy sex.

The Truth: Women enjoy sex just as much as men do. What they don't enjoy is sex with a man who is not sensitive to their needs. Most women have sex to make love. They want to be cuddled, held, kissed, and played with. Women usually want very involved, passionate foreplay. They don't want just intercourse.

Myth 11: Most couples stop having sex by the time they are in their 60's.

The Truth: According to recent studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine, many men and women continue to have intercourse and oral sex even past the ripe old age of 75.

As more and more folks enjoy longer, healthier lives, many widely held beliefs about aging are being challenged, including many common sexual myths. Just don't tell the kids!

Orgasm Myth 12: Most women can't have orgasms after they go through menopause.

The Truth: Many women experience changes is sexual function during the years of menopause. However, menopause should not mark the end of sexuality.

Sexual interest and desire are largely determined by social and emotional factors, but hormones like estrogen and testosterone also play a role. Although estrogen production by the ovaries slows down at menopause, it is a woman's production of testosterone (which is largely unaffected by menopause) that drives much of her sexual desire.

Although her sexual functioning may be altered, the notion that a woman should not retain her ability to reach climax throughout life is one of society's biggest orgasm myths.
